This poster uses clean type over a scanned pastiche New
Zealand voting paper
so that the viewer may make the connection to voting
within New Zealand.
Substitution/addition has been employed by shredding the
ballot paper to
present it in an unfamiliar way and introduce the second idea
of rubbish and
ineffectiveness. The viewer will focus on the colour in the
image first before
following the strong downward movement of the composition to
arrive at the
tagline. The desired ihi wehi reaction is for the viewer to make
the connection
between the ballot and its potential for power and change but
also realize what’s
really happening and question the effectiveness of our
current government systems.
